Microglass beads are processed from lead-free, soda-lime glass, free of free silica, and can be made into pre-shaped spheres. Compared to angle abrasives, this media works better when smooth and shiny surfaces are required. Microglass beads can be recycled about 30 times. When properly controlled, microglass beads are chemically inert and environmentally friendly, making them an acceptable method for metal cleaning or surface treatment. Micro Glass Beads are available in a variety of sizes and can be used in blast cabinets for honing, polishing, shot peening, blending, finishing, deburring minor burrs and cleaning most minor foreign objects. For delicate thin-walled parts and thin welds, shot peening with microglass beads provides the right balance of stress relief without undue stress and damage. When separating parts from media after use, consider the size of the perforations or holes through which the D-GBSP must pass.
